Jonnathian, the middle son, is constantly calling him fag and punk and did it last evening because he came out the tub , put on his clothes for bed and was twerking. Working with young children I try to tell parents that it is okay for the boys to play in the doll house because they will learn how to be nurturing and taking care of a family. I also tell them that the children are creating things in their minds and some of the people that the parents like dress up and there is no problem.

I think this topic is a great research project to conduct. This is becoming a big concern with our children and discovering ways to address this at a young age could be the key to making better terms with it. I often tell parents that boys will one day turn into fathers, so it is important for them to learn more domestic roles. Openly communicating with others is a great way to deal with this issue, but researching ways to help parents understand could be a great research topic.

ReplyDeleteMy co-worker is an older lady and she don't believe in boys playing with dolls and little girl playing with trucks. One day, I can remember one of the little boys in our class pretending to bath the boy. My co-worker called his name and told him to put the doll down because boys don't play with dolls. I told the child to continue bathing the baby, because one day, he is going to be a great father. I was to see a little boy dress up in women clothing, I would tell him that he is going to be a great actor someday.

ReplyDeleteIt is sad that children have to endure name calling. I feel bad for your nephew because he is being taunted by his own siblings. I think that the parents need to teach the children that it is okay to bully their brother in any way, shape, or form. People often assume that a child is gay or lesbian because of the way they act. If a girl wants to dress in baggy pants and a button down shirt she is thought be a lesbian. If a boy wants to play with baby dolls he is deemed to grow up gay. I feel that a child should be able to make their own choices no matter how we, as adults feel.
